Dosing agent for steam boilers

In Austria, the basis for the assessment of boiler water is the Steam Boiler Operation Act (Federal Law Gazette No. 212/1992 as amended) and the ABV issued on the basis thereof (Federal Law Gazette No. 352/1992 as amended).

Oxygen control is an important aspect of corrosion protection in steam boiler systems: The oxygen present in the raw water, which can lead to severe oxygen corrosion in the boiler, is first largely removed by thermal degassing; the remaining oxygen is then bound by oxygen binders such as sulfite, DEHA or hydrazine.

Combination products with O2 protection based on sulfite

These products are supplied as combination products, so that optimal corrosion protection is achieved with the dosage of a single product. However, sulfite is not vapor-volatile, meaning that these products do not protect steam and condensate lines in the system; on the other hand, unrestricted use in the food industry is possible.

  • Protection through increased sulfite content (binding of residual oxygen) and pH reduction in the boiler water; particularly suitable for boiler systems without thermal degassing.

    Protection through significantly increased oxygen binding; minimal pH shift in the boiler water.

  • Protection primarily through high sulfite content (O2 binding), also suitable for boiler systems without thermal degassing.

    Enhanced protection through phosphating of the metal surface, binding of residual oxygen and reduction of alkalinity in the boiler water – especially suitable for top-up dosing.

    All-round protection for steam and heating boilers, especially with softened, but also with fully demineralized feed and boiler water, by means of oxygen binding, phosphating, residual hardness stabilization and alkalization.

  • AKORRIT-SFS

    Protection through binding of dissolved oxygen, especially for boiler systems without thermal degassing.

Corrosion protection based on water-steam-volatile amines

Some of these products contain volatile substances that also protect the steam and condensate lines of a heating system. For example, diethylhydroxylamine (DEHA) has a relatively high volatility, making it particularly effective at protecting the steam and condensate areas.

    Protection through the combination of volatile amines with dispersants to combat residual hardness in the feed water.

Hydrazine-based corrosion protection for high-pressure boilers

These products also contain, in part, volatile substances that can be used to protect steam and condensate lines in a heating system; the major disadvantage of hydrazine is its toxicity, so that today hydrazine products are rarely used, mainly in high-pressure or turbine applications.

  • Protection through oxygen binding and promotion of the formation of a magnetite protective layer, as well as through alkalization, which can be significantly enhanced by the presence of morpholine, especially in the condensate area.

  • Protection through phosphating of the metal surface, binding of residual oxygen and increasing the alkalinity in the boiler water, especially in the case of fully demineralized feedwater or feedwater consisting predominantly of condensate.

  • Combined protection by protecting the boiler through phosphating of the metal surface, binding of residual oxygen and increasing the alkalinity in the boiler water, as well as protecting the condensate system by releasing morpholine and ammonia into the steam to neutralize the released carbon dioxide.

Corrosion protection agents based on film formers

These products build up a greasy protective film on the metal surface that blocks corrosion.

  • Multi-component product for the protection of boilers and steam or condensate lines, including residual hardness binding.

  • Multi-component product for the protection of boilers and steam or condensate lines for softened, partially and fully demineralized water.

    Special acid amide, for the protection of boilers and steam or condensate lines, without undesirable deposits in case of overdosing.

Protection through dispersants

To enhance the effectiveness of corrosion inhibitors, dispersants are used. They cause existing corrosion products in the system to detach, slurry, and stabilize in solution, allowing them to be easily separated using a suitable filter.
