To remove silicate deposits, only one acid can be used: hydrofluoric acid. It contains special corrosion inhibitors designed to protect the metallic materials from acid attack. A monomolecular protective film forms selectively on the metal surface without hindering the acid’s ability to dissolve the deposit.
ANTISIL – Solvent for the breakdown of silicate coatings – contains hydrofluoric acid.
The application
ANTISIL is miscible with water in any ratio, but it is advisable not to exceed a dilution of 1:20 with water, as otherwise the losses due to water hardness become too great and the dissolution rate too slow.
ANTISIL reacts with lime to form insoluble calcium fluoride (fluorspar), which inhibits the further dissolution of silica. Therefore, when descaling boilers, the almost always present lime must first be dissolved with KALZITIN.
ANTISIL is normally applied cold and must only be poured into cooled containers. ANTISIL solutions should be pumped only minimally; that is, the action of ANTISIL on the stone surface should ideally take place undisturbed.
Calculation of quantity requirements:
For silicate coatings with an average specific gravity of 2, this results in a requirement of 19 kg of ANTISIL for 1 dm3 silicate stone, which is 1 mm stone thickness per 1 m2 stone-covered area.
Post-treatment:
After the destoning process is complete, at the latest after 48 hours, the system is emptied, thoroughly rinsed with water, and, after a possible intermediate rinse with SULFATEX-A (2-10% solution), treated with TRINEUTRAL.
The duration of the SULFATEX-A treatment depends on the extent of surface rust formation and can last between 1 and 24 hours.
Used ANTISIL solution is hazardous waste and must be disposed of by a hazardous waste disposal company.
