The complete removal of water constituents
Besides lime, there are other dissolved substances in the water; if these are salt ions, they can also be rendered harmless by complete removal = desalination.
Only desalination plants completely remove the calcium salts from the water – these plants simply bind all the ions with the help of a special ion exchange resin and thus “remove” them from the water (desalination).
When the desalination ion exchanger is exhausted, the resin must be replaced; the saturated resin is returned and recycled by specialist companies.
Corrosivity always accompanies water treatment.
Even after complete desalination, the corrosiveness of the water remains; at low pH values, its OH–-and H+-ions continue to corrode. Therefore, treatment with an approved, suitable corrosion inhibitor is still recommended.
Removing limescale-forming substances certainly prevents the formation of limescale deposits – but depending on the condition of the treated water, appropriate measures to prevent corrosion must always be taken.
To sustainably carry out desalination using ion exchange, we offer the following techniques:
– Mixed media cartridges
– VE-System
